Diploma Project 2006

Integration of a former church into a new social center for the surrounding neighbourhood, containing housing for elderly people, child care, event hall and youth center.

The existing church of St. Engelbert in the town of Essen is nearly completely embedded into newly built volume.
By means of sculptural carving into the volume characteristic features of the church are exposed and the former function of the building remains visible.
